Visitors are being pointed in the right direction.

Leadership Elk City Class VIII is teaming up with the City of Elk City to provide 13 new wayfinding signs that are going up around town.

Each Leadership Elk City class undertakes a project. Class VIII chose the signs, and City Street Superintendent Tim Bagby and his crew have been busy placing them.

According to class member Jeff McDowell, although the signs are different sizes and designs, they center around one theme.

“Ultimately, we hope that this will be the blueprint for future wayfinding signs around the city as we continue to grow and expand,” McDowell said.

The signs have two purposes—to advertise Elk City’s unique attractions and to help people find them.

“We felt that Elk City has so many things that make it a great place to live, but as locals, we tend to take them for granted,” McDowell said. “So, we wanted to create something that would welcome visitors to our community, direct tourists around town, and also make them aware of all that Elk City has to offer.”

Signs are being placed at Country Club & Pioneer, 3rd & Pioneer, 20th & Pioneer, Highway 6 & Lakeview, 20th & Main, the “Y” at Country Club & Van Buren, Highway 34 & I-40 Business, Country Club & Main, Eastern at Exit 40, 7th & Eastern, 7th & Main, 3rd & Main, and in Ackley Park near Thunderbird Bay and the mini golf course.

Leadership Elk City Class VIII members are McDowell, Rodney Cloud, Jessica Ford, Amber Taylor, Aubrey Clark, Korbin Perkey, Sherri Horn, Blane Holt, and Jesse Champagne.
